In Partnership with Barbados Cancer Society, CEMIX Aims to Donate to Support Children and Families Battling Childhood Cancer
Saint Lucy, Barbados – November 1, 2017 – CEMIX Inc. today announced a new nationwide initiative to support families and raise awareness about childhood cancer. CEMIX has pledged to support families through its Green Hearts for Gold Ribbons campaign which focuses on Childhood Cancer.
This initiative has been designed to financially support families who have reached out to the Barbados Cancer Society and have been identified as suitable candidates for the programme. CEMIX will support these families allowing them to focus on their children as they go through treatment and concentrate on getting healthy. Under this effort CEMIX has also engaged other members of the corporate community to stimulate philanthropic in-kind donations. One such company is Bryden Stokes who provided the family with non-perishable goods and other personal essentials. CEMIX’s programmes complement the Barbados Cancer Society’s aim to strengthen families and communities, assist with financial burdens and improve the life chances of everyone they work with.
“CEMIX has been committed to fighting cancer for three years. After working with the Barbados Cancer Society and visiting Queen Elizabeth Hospital and meeting many extraordinary children affected by childhood cancer, we wanted to share our stories with communities and customers,” said Jason Edwards, General Manager of CEMIX Inc. “Our goal is to raise more awareness of this issue than we ever have before to support the fight against this dreaded disease with the hope of seeing more children go on to live long, happy lives, free of cancer. We are a compassionate company supporting our community,” he explained.
Even though there have been many advances in therapies and treatment, cancer still remains one of the unfortunate diseases in children in Barbados. While most childhood cancers are can be cured today, many will suffer long-term health effects from treatment that will remain with them throughout their lives.
“As we’ve met numerous children, families, doctors and support teams that help kids fight cancer, we’ve become more and more aware of how many different resources are needed to assist kids and families through cancer – from diagnosis through treatment and beyond,” said Dr. Cooke Johnson, President, Barbados Cancer Society. She also added that, “Cutting edge medical research and educational, psychological and emotional support services are all crucial parts of cancer treatment for children and families, and CEMIX’s new initiative will support the people and organizations that are working directly with children and families fighting cancer.”
